The Army could get a unique capability to detect persons behind a solid barrier
Notwithstanding the top-class training inside the buildings (CQB) the CAF special troops are almost blind. Even various camera systems do not allow vision through walls, which creates significant risks in case of live intervention. It may be changed by ReTWis 5 system from company Retia belonging into Czechoslovak Group holding.

Risks elimination and prevention to own (as well as civil) losses is the fundamental prerequisite for operational deployment of special troops as well as all the military and police units. Exactly the capability to "see" through a barrier, namely walls could significantly improve armed units´ capabilities. Current systems are namely based on use of CCTV (closed-circuit television) circuits into which the specialists plug in case of intervention. There are also used miniature cameras that are inserted into a room of interest via ventilation system or in a different way. However, this method may not be always proper enough, or rather it is hard to imagine fast, adamant intervention preceded by quite long preparation and reconnaissance of technology of the premises - building etc.

Certain solution is offered by our home defence industry, namely Retia company, that has its portfolio small ReTWis 5 radar which has been developed and improved for a long time. And it is no large and ponderous device despite the word radar usually suggests that. The other way around, its dimensions are quite compact, 345 x 280 x 112 mm. The radar total weight is 3250 grams. A specialist - an operator would therefore be able to hide such small radar easily into his backpack, and thanks to military standards the device is guaranteed with endurance and a several-hours battery endurance.

An what does ReTWis 5 see? The display angle is one hundred and twenty degrees in a horizontal way as well as in elevation with a range of forty metres. Such parameters should be far enough to cover common room or even larger area. ReTWis 5 signal radar processing is optimised for detection of small changes produced by human or animal motion and so that enables for example human localisation only through simple breathing. It means that the device detects still as well as moving beings. The barrier through which you are "looking" with the radar may not be a metal one, of course.

The radar may also be placed to a tripod and Wi- Fi controlled, which directly offers radar placement to some robotic system and its following remote controlling. To see and not to be seen is a prerequisite for an effective reconnaissance and (not only) the Army could, thanks to this Czech device, get a unique capability that will help to protect human lives.
