The Army purchases 9 mm calibre M4 carbines
The Army of the Czech Republic intends to purchase a total of fifty sets of M4 assault rifles within the framework of the tender "9 mm Carbine M 4 category". According to the required specifications, the rifles will be used for special tasks abroad and in the Czech Republic and for training with 9 mm calibre ammunition at shooting ranges and in so-called Kill Houses, i.e. buildings designed for live fire training in rooms. The total volume of the contract exceeds CZK 6 million excluding VAT, so one set will cost approximately CZK 120,000 excluding VAT.

The Army of the Czech Republic intends to purchase a total of fifty sets of M4 assault rifles within the framework of the tender "9 mm Carbine M 4 category". According to the required specifications, the rifles will be used for special tasks abroad and in the Czech Republic and for training with 9 mm calibre ammunition at shooting ranges and in so-called Kill Houses, i.e. buildings designed for live fire training in rooms. The total volume of the contract exceeds CZK 6 million excluding VAT, so one set will cost approximately CZK 120,000 excluding VAT.
The Army has the following requirements in the framework of the recently announced tender:
- M4 type 9 mm calibre carbine with the possibility of firing single shots and bursts, with a length-sliding and folding stock
- Barrel length 8" (203 mm), chrome or nitrided, (barrel must be marked with a serial number identical to the serial number of the weapon)
- The weapon must allow the user (without the use of special workshop tools) to exchange the barrel for a shorter barrel (e.g. 4,5", 114 mm)
- The weapon must be capable of exchanging the forearm for a shorter forearm
- Effective range with 8" barrel min. 150 m
- Weight of the weapon without magazine, sling and other accessories (8" barrel only, foregrip, folding stock) max. 3,1 kg
- Removable folding sights, adjustable laterally and in height
- Required weapon accuracy min. 4 MOA at 25 m
- Ambidextrous controls - magazine catch, button to release bolt from rear position, weapon safety
- M4 type weapon safety. Individual positions identical to those of the M4 type weapon
- Ability to use conversion kit for Simunition FX ammunition. (Conversion kit not required as part of delivery)
- Weapon must be capable of firing with suppressor attached
The above list clearly demonstrates the use of the M4 carbine's reliable concept, its use in training, where the financial savings due to the ammunition used is also evident. In addition, there is the possibility of using simulation ammunition, which further enhances the intensity and realism of the training.
The delivery of 50 sets, the price of which is not to exceed CZK 6 198 347.11 (VAT excluded), should have the following equipment (scope of one set):
- 1 x M4 carbine of 9 mm calibre with a length-sliding and folding stock and an interchangeable barrel of 8" (203 mm) length, the barrel must be marked with a serial number identical to the serial number of the weapon, with a flame arrestor compatible with the suppressor supplied with the weapon
- 1 x 4.5" (114 mm) barrel, barrel must be marked with a serial number matching the serial number of the weapon, with a flame arrestor compatible with the suppressor supplied with the weapon
- 1x Suppressor compatible with the weapon. Calibre 9x19 mm. Dimensions of suppressor (length x diameter) max. 185x40mm. Weight max 350 g, each suppressor must be marked with serial number)
- 1 x Forearm designed for 4.5" barrel, this forearm fitted with Picatinny Rail /MIL STD 1913 mounting interface on the top side and M-LOK interface on the sides and bottom side
- 1 x Universal sling (min. two-point), including universal sling or gun mounts for both right and left hand grip
- 2 x Magazine pouch for 3 magazines with MOLLE attachment. Colour sand, black, dark green or Multicam
- 6 x Magazine for 30 rounds for the above weapon
- 1 x Cleaning kit for maintenance of the weapon in the packaging supplied by the manufacturer (min. wiper, smoke bottle, brush, oil can and textile cleaning cord of the bore type "Boresnake")
The latest closing date of the tender is set for 15 October 2023. The weapons in the required specification will be intended for the performance of special tasks abroad and in the Czech Republic and for training with 9 mm calibre ammunition at shooting ranges and in so-called Kill Houses, which are special shooting ranges used for training (not only) soldiers in a simulated urban environment, i.e. in confined spaces and at short range (CQB).
