Last week, new Czech soldiers joined the Adaži base in Latvia as a part of the alliance's Enhanced Forward Presence. The soldiers did not idle and immediately on the day of accepting the operation task, they presented colleagues from other countries with their equipment, armaments and technology.

Czech soldiers joined in the so-called Vehicle Display, which is a term for the presentation of machinery, armament and equipment of individual states. Getting to know the equipment of other states and the knowledge of individual rank terms are very important for every soldier in a foreign operation. It improves the possibility of cooperation in the framework of the international military task that NATO member countries perform in Latvia.

The meetings take place regularly in the military technology park, with the participating states presenting their equipment for about half an hour. So Czech soldiers, in turn, get to know the equipment of the armies from other countries.

CZ 806 BREN rifle impressed all the visitors

At the recent presentation of the Czech army, their colleagues from abroad were very interested in PRAMs or special protective bulletproof vests. The biggest response, however, aroused the assault rifle CZ 806 BREN. “Everybody who came to see the presentation liked it. They especially appreciated the compact proportions, good handling possibilities and were very pleasantly surprised when they learned the tactical-technical characteristics,” said Sergeant M. P.

Czech soldiers in Latvia are members of the 4th Brigade Task Force of the Army of the Czech Republic. It operates under the leadership of Canada as a part of the Alliance's Enhanced Forward Presence. The core of the Czech group now consists of the members of Mortar Battery at 42nd Mechanised Battalion in Tábor. Before them there were soldiers from the 72nd Mechanised Battalion from Přáslavice.

NATO members agreed on the project of forward presence in 2016 and Czech soldiers have been part of eFP since summer 2018. NATO has multinational troops as a part of the forward presence in Poland and the three Baltic countries. Czechs are in Latvia and Lithuania. The basic task of eFP is to demonstrate, by presence and training, the determination to defend the sovereignty of the member states of NATO. The multinational contingent now consists of soldiers from nine states.

It's worth mentioning that the first assault rifles CZ 806 BREN 2 (published materials mostly talk about the rifle "CZ 806 BREN", or only the rifle "BREN 2") were purchased by the Czech army in 2015 in the context of urgent operational needs, in the number of about 2,600 pieces. Rifles of this type are now declared a replacement for type 58 submachine guns and CZ 805 BREN assault rifles, the first generation Bren, which have not met expectations especially in terms of weight, balance and ergonomics.

The CZ 806 BREN is a Czech multi-calibre assault rifle developed by the company Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod. The arm was officially introduced in 2015. The design is based on the CZ 805 BREN, but has undergone a number of changes and adjustments, which were based primarily on direct combat experience with the CZ 805 BREN assault rifle.

The firearm uses a proven locked breech with a rotating bolt locked by six teeth. A firing pin block is available for added safety, although the weight of the firing pin itself does not allow for the unwanted initiation of the primer in the bullet.

The arm fires either with separate shoots or in bursts. The maximum cyclic rate of fire is 850 (±100) shoots per minute. The operation life of the barrel (cold-forged) is at least 20,000 shoots, the operation life of the whole system is at least 30,000 shoots. The minimum effective gun-range of the CZ BREN 2 is 300 m (8” barrel) or 400 m (11 ") or 500 m (14") respectively. The weight of the CZ BREN 2 with a full magazine (without optical sights) is 2,8 kg (8"), 3,05 kg (11 ") or 3,25 kg (14 ") respectively.
