The Government has approved a draft framework of the state budget for the next year and the medium term forecast for the period of 2021 and 2022. The press section of the Government announced it. The area of defence will gain significantly more finances for its budget compared to the last year, and the share of expenditures of this chapter in GDP will be 1.4 % in 2021.

The Government has approved the material of the Ministry of Finance named “Preparation of the State Budget of the Czech Republic for 2020” containing preliminary draft receipts and expenditures by separate chapters and creates environment for the realization of key governmental priorities. The Draft State Budget counts with the total receipts in the amount of 1,558.1 milliard CZK, expenditures in the amount of 1,598.1 milliard CZK, and a balance in the amount of 40 milliard CZK. Along with the retirees, to whom the state is going to add 900 CZK, the department of defence and internal affairs should celebrate, because any increase - even small - can be considered as a plus.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will get by about 320 million more, the Security Information Service (BIS) by 24 million, the Czech General Inspection of Security Corps (GIBS) by 22 million, and on the contrary, National Security Authority (NBÚ) will get less almost by 24 million.

Nevertheless, one of the biggest investments for the defence department in modern history are expected. Acquisition of two Casa aircraft, armoured fighting vehicles for more than 50 milliards, helicopters for about 12-13 milliard, radars, armoured cars and so on is planned. The total investment in modernization of the army at the nearest years will achieve tens of milliard CZK. Modernization goes hand in hand with graduate rearmament, new equipment, ballistic protection etc.  That’s why the increase of the defence budget is so important. Although, we're getting no closer to our engagement to spend 2% of GDP on defence.
