The Army of the Czech Republic made use of the offer by the Canadian Ministry of Defence to send one active reserve soldier in the rank of captain to the course for captains in the reserve (Primary Reserve Army Operations Course). The course will address the doctrine of ground forces and planning at the level of battalion and brigade. The course will start in September this year and end in July 2021. The studies, which will take place mainly online, will be supplemented by two one-week stays in Canada, in May and July 2021.

“We accepted the offer made by the Canadian Ministry of Defence with thanks and decided to send the commanders of the active reserve companies to the captains' course. Captain Jiří Purm, Commander of the Company of 102th Reconnaissance Battalion in Prostějov, will be the first to study in Canada. He will test the course for his followers,” said Major General Jaromír Alan, Director of the Capability Planning Division of the Ministry of Defence.

Soldiers in the active reserve now have the opportunity, just like professional soldiers, to use the offer of the Language Education Centre of the University of Defence in Brno and to study English (including its military version), French, German or Russian online. All they need to do is send an email with contact information, the number of their military department and choose the course they want to study.

"We are glad that the capacity of our language centre and its IT systems has enabled us to offer the study of foreign languages also to the active reservists. Exactly in the spirit of the often used motto of the Chief of the ACR General Staff: “One republic, one army.” I believe that in the future we will be able to offer further online education to the soldiers in active reserves,” said Brigadier General Bohuslav Přikryl, Rector of the University of Defence.
